3 Easy Ways to Upgrade Your Security Game

#Stay Safe Stay Vigilant

Cybersecurity is an important consideration for mortgage brokers, as the industry increasingly relies on digital systems and data. Brokers need to be aware of the potential risks and threats posed by cyberattacks, and take steps to protect their businesses and clients. This includes implementing robust security measures, and educating staff and clients on cybersecurity risks and best practices.

Here are three tips to help you keep your and your clients’ information safe:

1. Use a password manager.

  • Most web browsers come with integrated password managers, but if your browser becomes compromised your passwords may also be at risk. Instead, we recommend using a dedicated password manager, such as BitWarden or 1Password. A dedicated password manager stores your passwords in an encrypted form, helps you generate secure random passwords, and allows you to easily access your passwords across all the different computers, smartphones, and tablets you use.

2. Keep your software up-to-date.

  • Vulnerable applications and operating systems are the targets of most attacks. Ensuring these are patched with the latest updates greatly reduces the number of exploitable entry points available to an attacker. Enabling auto-update on your computer operating system is also highly recommended.

3. Take secure backups.

  • Employ a data backup and recovery plan for all critical information and make sure your backups are setup correctly. A simple strategy is to use cloud storage separate from your primary storage or copy your computer files to an external storage such as an external drive.
